Movie Notes
Apr. 14th, 2003 01:41 pmDog Soldiers: Good stuff. Entertaining, occasional splattering, nice dark humour, and they even stuck a line from the Matrix into it.
XXX: Mediocre. No matter how hard it tries, it hasn't a hope of being even close to a Bond movie, which I believe is what they were trying for; the pacing is all screwed up (let's have a slo-mo panning crowd shot bang in the middle of an adrenaline-rush sequence) and every stunt feels terrifically contrived, as if the previous ten minutes of the movie was solely designed to create the environment that stunt required. Which is true, generally speaking, but it's no reason to have the movie feel that way.
Also, funny seeing Vin Diesel delivering all these lines so horribly and then trying to imagine him in a more dramatic role, such as A Man Apart. You ain't no Connery, dude.
