An interesting mailing list entry on design decisions at Microsoft. This sort of vindicates my theory that they're not all clueless morons in the software department, just victims of large-system effects like unpredictable interactions of unrelated components.

Senator Byrd speaks out. Unfortunately, I'm not so sure he's right when he says, "the people know". I get the distinct impression that a lot of "the people" either don't know or don't care, leaving the ones who do know and care to shake their fists impotently at snarky people like me who keep pointing it out. Please do prove me wrong, though.
