The Jack L show I went to see on Thursday last featured said Jack performing the songs of Jacques Brel, a Belgian crooner who died some 25 years ago. The songs have been translated from their original French to English; some poking around on the web suggests that there are good and bad versions of the lyrics, the bad ones being technically accurate but losing the spirit of the original song in the translation. My current favourite song, which I am attempting to learn - without the benefit of a backing band featuring a double bass and an accordian - is Jacky, the good translated lyrics for which feature on someone's vanity domain.

A fun weekend of visitors.

Bob mentioned that he found one of my female friends difficult to read. However, reading people isn't Bob's strong point, on top of which YOU DON'T KNOW THE HALF OF IT, BOB. I've had an easier time reading poorly printed books by candlelight.

SIGH.

Anyway, we went to see Pirates of the Carribean (second time for me, first time for Bob and the aforementioned femme) and this time I stuck around to see the little monkey cameo at the end.

I'm in an odd sort of mood; it feels kind of like frustration, but resigned frustration, and it's not for any immediately obvious reason. It's sort of like being restless combined with knowing I can't do anything to alleviate the restlessness.

Makes me feel like going over my big pile of old lyrics to see if any further creation springs forth, but normally in this frame of mind I can't create anything more complex than a cup of coffee.
