talk.bizarre used have this recurring type of bogon: they'd post something stupid in the newsgroup (apparently having taken Spaf's description of talk.bizarre to heart), they'd get flamed, they'd whine, they'd be told about the basic standards of the group, and then they'd threaten to flood the group with their noise and their friends' noise and then they'd vanish and we'd all just go back to roasting cavenewts and what not.

I always thought it was a futile exercise on their part, that noone could achieve what they were trying to do.

And yet, it has finally happened. And, irony of ironies, from within, more or less. The group is now a mass of rubbish with only the occasional sparkle of goodness, and all attempts to get the progenitors of this trash to just take their personal conversations offline have failed.

It makes me sad to see that. talk.bizarre was one newsgroup that was guaranteed to make me laugh, make me think, make me feel, and on a daily basis at that. Now it's become the sewer that so many outsiders (and, to be honest, a lot of insiders) always described it as.

If you care at all about what's left, please do one small thing: don't post to a thread featuring the protagonists of this disaster. Don't follow up, don't rebuke, don't even try offline contact. No matter how witty, scathing, whatever. The less attention we pay to these vandalisers of a once entertaining group, the more chance we have that eventually, they will go away. It's a forlorn hope, but it's all I've got left.

It's either that, or hit 'U'.

Well, the room is less of a mess, and a goodly chunk of ironing has been done. Time to visit yon bed thing.
