amazon phone interview #3

The interview was scheduled for 6pm local. The phone rang *once* at 6:36, and hasn't rung again since. I can only assume that confusion is reigning in Seattle, since the previous call was an hour and fifteen minutes late due to unspecified "confusion" on their part. Oh well. I guess I'll just mosey on in to their office on Monday for the face-to-face and see how that goes.

Amazon? Does this mean you'll be relocating to Seattle?

(I have a friend working at Amazon.)

No, silly! "I am interviewing for an American company" does not mean "I am moving to America" in this modern world of multinationals. Amazon have an office right next to the Guinness brewery (also itself multinational, so I will qualify by adding "here in Dublin")

Well, drat. This means we won;t see you anytime soon.

Though, working next to the Guinness brewery sounds better.

Well, [livejournal.com profile] tongodeon is a veteran of staying-at-[livejournal.com profile] waider's gaff, so I'm sure he can describe in great detail what you're missing. I mean, yeah, I've moved house three times since he stayed, but the nature of the place is pretty much the same. On the inside, anyway. Outside, I no longer have to concern myself with the local drug addicts and car-burning kids and what not.

Of course, because I'm a geek I've dug up what I'm pretty sure is the email address of the guy who was supposed to call me to see if I can find out what the story is and perhaps induce him to call me (again, if that was indeed him with the single ring). Maybe it's all part of the process.

It's all a test! Good luck on the phone interview, anyway.

Oh ack. I hope their HR folks aren't totally clueless. Please keep us posted, as we're all rooting for you.

Apparently HR (or the relevant portion thereof) being on vacation has actually hastened the process to date.

They were nine years ago. Doesn't sound like much has changed.

(It's a good place, though, if you get the right department.)

If you get the job, do you get BOOKS?

Well, let's look at it this way. Giving [livejournal.com profile] waider a job with a company who sell books and movies and are sited next to the Guinness brewery. It's just so much goodness, you know? I'll probably explode if they give me a job.

Yes, I believe there's employee discount, but you could ask [livejournal.com profile] rimrunner about that.

Thumbs up

Best of luck with it.

[identity profile] rimrunner.livejournal.com 2005-06-26 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
When I worked there, the "discount" amounted to not having to pay shipping, which actually worked out to a pretty substantial amount (and their shipping rates are much higher now than they were then, unless you do the Super Saver thingie). I left in 2000, though, so things may have changed.
