haven't you people better things to be doing?

Cornell tries to win over Alex Doonesbury apparently missing strip's poking fun at such institutions hounding applicants to choose them.

I'm not sure that qualifies as missing the point -- while Trudeau is constructing humour with a backdrop of institutional competition, Cornell is living that competitiveness, and could quite reasonably calculate that mentions of their name in a well-read strip do them no harm at all.

(What better things do a Marketing department have to be doing, anyhow?)

I have to second that. Compare the dozens of dollars that effort cost them to the thousands for a week-long ad display of similar size in the New York Times.

None of the schools that Trudeau is either praising or mocking are going to suffer by the attention. Even Ball State, the only non-A list school namedropped so far, is probably most famous for the scholarship David Letterman sponsors that's restricted to C-average students.

Jeez, you people are no fun. How am I supposed to make my typically snide remarks in the face of such commentary?

It must've worked, since yesterday's strip had her "so going to Cornell".

Yeah, but she appears to be having second thoughts.

(I loved her comment on Harvard, though. "Who wants to start every day getting over yourself?" Hee.)

He's obligated to write that, as a Yale grad. (A school Alex seems to display no interest in.)
