Evidently it's time for my annual, or however often it happens, generic throat infection. Nothing makes me feel quite so good as having spent the entire night alternating between "I'm cold!" and "I'm hot!", while trying to figure out the least painful way to swallow. Sleep? Hahahahah. You jest, surely. On the plus side, I seem to be past the worst of it already. It seems like going to the chemist for some Sudafed would probably be a waste at this point, so I'll just stick to mushy food and keeping warm.

It occurs to me to ask: does this tend to hit at the same time of year? If so, it may be allergy-flavoured...

Given that it's not the first time I've been thus afflicted, you'd imagine I might have an answer to your question. I don't. Part of the reason for noting it here is that the next time this happens I can go look and see. It's actually about the only sickness I've had in the last few years, to be honest - so much so that when my brother phoned me at work some years back and was told I'd called in sick, he figured something must be wrong because I never called in sick to work! (This would have been when Orla broke up with me, so he was right)

Me too! I feel all right, but I woke up this morning with no voice. I've been up for an hour or so and it's starting to make its way back, but it sounds scratchy and faint. Plus there are blobs of stuff wedged somewhere up in my head.
