success, of sorts

Muahaha. I appear to have botched my recalcitrant washing machine into working order again.

xmas booty addendum

Forgot one thing: a book called Heaven Knows, the content of which is letters from deceased persons to the living. All of Irish historical significance, and humour. Looks interesting, but I've not cracked it open yet.

Irritated at the moment because the washing machine broke again. Now, I've not been scrupulously careful about loading it, but I've been far more careful than I was for the year plus before it broke, so I'm blaming the guy who "fixed" it. Inspection of the innards revealed that the drive wheel was loose; this time, having an actual functioning brane in operation, I realised that the wheelbrace which came with my car is about the correct size for the bolt that holds the drive wheel on. Jammed the drum, cranked the bolt about a quarter-turn, and presto. Happy washing machine. I guess I should get some threadlock or something to make sure it doesn't slip again, although the way my bro used do this was to hammer seven shades of shit out of the exposed part of the thread so that the only way the bolt was coming off was if it recut the threads itself. Of course, there's no exposed thread, so even if I wanted to cowboy it I couldn't.

just like me dad

My washing machine broke. I've determined the problem, fixed it, unfixed it to see if I can figure out how to fix it permanently, and resolved to fix it properly at a later date once I've bought a few more tools. Such as an 18mm spanner. The last bit's not like my dad, since he's got a lifetime of accumulated tools to fall back on.

Waider-tested, Feet-approved

I've installed my new desk, and rearranged my room. Somehow adding a piece of furniture has increased the available space, and that's before I'd transferred all the crap into the desk. Bizarre.

Of course, I now need a new chair, because the one I have is stuck at the wrong height and while it's fun to have my feet up on the desk, it's not terrifically comfortable after a few hours and is probably doing terrible things to my spine.

construction!

I bought myself a new desk, which I'd link to on the website of the company I bought it from except the bunch of losers have a page up saying how the site doesn't work with anything based on the Gecko rendering engine. Gah.

The desk is rather nice, albeit not the one I was intending to get. I'm still pondering the logistics of how it fits in the room, but on the whole it should allow me to reduce the computer clutter a little.

Of course, the mechanics of mass production mean that the CD rack featurette is somewhat less than useful, but that's okay. I don't have many CDs that I use on a regular basis anyway.

don't try this at home, kids!

I cleaned the laptop as best I could after last night's yoghurt incident. ("I don't think it was yoghurt, hur hur". Thanks. You're very funny. Take a cookie, and FUCK OFF.)
