The House Trip

Right, well, having a 1/4-paid car loan counts against me, since it's subtracting from my "spare cash", but on the other hand it's proof that I can pay off a loan, so it may count for me in mysterious ways. Paying too much rent counts for me for the same reason - proof of ability to pay, essentially. I now need to gather together lots of bits of paper to prove that I am not, in fact, fibbing wildly about my financials, and see if we have a family solicitor to handle the legal side of it. Then I get pre-approval on a mortgage, and go house shopping. Dear god, I think I'm actually going to go ahead with this, economy be damned.

make sure there's a room for guests! you never know when one may show up.

good luck. it's a huge pain in the ass, but really pretty damn rewarding, and tremendously centering and grounding to have a place that is YOURS.

Well, when I say "house", realistically for my price-range I'm talking about a two-bedroom apartment. Has to be two-bedroom, because one of the standard hooks for increasing the amount the lender is willing to offer is for the borrower to say that the second room will be rented out. One of the lenders is offering up to 22K extra for this.

can you put up a couple real estate site links to show what sort of thing you're looking for?

Right now, no. But visit MyHome.ie, click on New Developments, and look for anything costing €200,000 or less. Having reviewed approximately where I think my car loan is at, I'm probably looking at €190,000 or less, to be honest.

I suggest lots of little colored ones.
