et tu, Apple?

I'm being a little unfair in tagging this as "customer abuse" but hey, that's the sort of curmudgeonly guy I am. Anyway. Apple sent me a text message to tell me my shipment is on the way (tut tut, that's potentially a violation of the Irish data protection regulations, but I'll let it slide) and to check store.apple.com/irl/orderstatus for the status of my order.
So I did.
And it said:
Shipment Status

Your Order Number: W[number]

I'm sure the service was available when the message was sent. Positive. It must have been. Do you doubt it?

Heh. You should point this out via a feedback form from http://www.apple.com/contact/

I'm surprised. Before I read the post, my guess would have been that using a customer's personal data to contact them about a specific transaction the customer initiated would be lawful.

Well, it might be. That's why I said "potentially". Or meant to, anyway. I need to go back and look at that page of data protection regs in plain english.
