governmental abuse

I got a letter today from the Revenue people asking me to confirm that I'd received my statutory redundancy lump sum from my previous employer. I cut my lip while licking the prepaid envelope provided for my response. I'm sure this is an omen for something or other, but I can't for the life of me figure out what.

If you didn't receive it, I wonder if your previous employer is trying to claim a tax rebate against the "payment"?

c'mon, this is Best. Boss. Evar. we're talking about. The statutory payment was less than half of what he gave me.

Aha. The speculation was because I recalled you mentioning that the money might not exist for redundancy payments...
