I was going to make a joke here about occupying foreign countries, but there are so many layers of context between Iraq and Afghanistan and Northern Ireland and the formation of the Irish Republic and 1066 and the Romans and the Celts and the Druids that I think I just won't.

You're also probably unaware that both the Irish Defence Forces and the Provisional IRA refer to themselves as Óglaigh na hÉireann, adding further madcap potential.
