I got a headhunter call just now, seeking to hire me for Horizon Technology Group. The funny thing is that I interviewed with Horizon's CEO back in 1994 (while seeking my first postgrad job), and he turned me down on the grounds that I hadn't decided if I wanted to be a developer or a sysadmin. Pretty much every role I've ever had since I graduated has involved me being a developer AND a sysadmin.

I wouldn't want to work with a developer who couldn't also serve as a sysadmin.

The idea of giving a developer sysadmin privs gives me the screaming heebiejeebies.
