redefine "affordable"

This is "affordable housing" in my neck of the woods. Actually, it's not even quite my neck of the woods, just in the same council district.

Dare I ask what the cost of living stuff is like around there?
(as in rent/drinks/etc)

2br apt is about a grand a month. My weekly grocery run varies from €30 to €45 depending on what sort of silliness I'm indulging in. Beer's about €3.50-€4.50 a pint depending on drinking establishment location and time of day/n ight, shorts are in roughly the same price range. Gas is currently running at just under €1/litre. Dunno if that helps you any; I'm sure someone's got a standardised cost-of-living price comparator on the web somewhere.

That's a decent enough explanation. Rent, food, gas, alcohol tends to be most of the expenses of single folk. :)

Affordable for bloated plutocrats. A mere snip for a high-earning young geek like yerself.

c'mere so I can kick your ass. I can't afford to call over to you to do it. You feckin' property-owning tosspot, you.

Hey, I don't own property. The bank does, and lets me pay for the privilege of pretending it's mine. Currently, they let me pay about 50% more than I was paying in rent, and I can't bitch about the landlord if something needs repairing...

As for "can't afford", how does that happen when you don't have a mortgage? ;)

The first thing I saw was this photo. I looked at the picture and said "That place? The whole thing? That's affordable? That's way nicer than the place I have - maybe I should move to Ireland."
