Three Colours: Doom

Oh cool. Maybe I don't have to worry about my future after all: We're all doomed anyway.

I pointed to that on my other blog - we had a whole weekend of weird golden haze here because of a mass of forest fires taking place many miles northwest of here, but with the wind blowing the smoke down to us you could even smell woodsmoke. The sun was like a copper penny in a yellow white sky. Very apocalyptic and a suitable setting for that article.

The issue was discussed on nh briefly; [livejournal.com profile] ikkyu2 said he was relying on contagious disease to right the balance but it's a fucked-up thing when you're hoping for a plague to bail you out.

Nah, nothing fucked-up about it. Disease is the only natural predator we've got left besides ourselves, and we sure ain't doing a good enough job at killing each other, the Middle East notwithstanding.

If we die, hey, we didn't deserve to live.

Feh, the extermination of all human life barely counts as doom.

Now here's some serious-ass doom!. Collapsing the Earth into a singularity, conversion of all terrestrial matter into new forms, and, my personal favorite, the decay of the metstable vacuum, destroying all matter in the Universe at the speed of light.

Now that's entertainment!

OH yeah. My default expectation is famine in China, an authoritarian coup, an extremely politicized olympics in 2008, petroleum crisis in 2010 and nuclear war in 2012.

China's best hope for ZPG is nuking its own citizens.
