The Canadian Grand Prix has been dropped from the F1 calendar because they won't allow cigarette adverts. This is really, really, REALLY dumb. In fact, almost litigiously dumb, since this means that Formula One Management is promoting cigarettes in about as strong a way as they can manage.

Yes. I'm not keen on car racing but the F1 weekend was huge, huge, huge in this town. But Belgium was willing to weaken its anti-tobacco law to get the race, so what can you do?

Hmm, now Bernie's denying he sent such a letter. I've a vague suspicion someone sent it on his behalf, in which case I don't want to be that person right now.

Yes, the news and the confused denial are the only news in town here at the moment. People are reeling - the event brings in huge tourism bucks for a single weekend and even people who couldn't give a damn about the race itself know it's important here.
