I've pretty much decided to go with the new job. It's yet another sysadmin-cum-programmer position, but with a much smaller company and from talking to another employee there, with much more autonomy. I'm waiting for the paperwork to turn up, at which point I will be having a chat with my current boss. Points of interest will include the fact that I've taken maybe two weeks of my four weeks of leave for the last year. Heh heh heh.
Things in the new job that excite me: It's a small company taking a gamble that could pay off. It's a Linux shop. Five weeks of paid vacation. Mandatory conference attendence. Yes, mandatory. There's also plans for a profit-sharing scheme, and potentially big money if the aforementioned gamble pays off, but on the whole it's just, I dunno, exciting. Certainly more so than working for a bank, anyway.
Maybe this is my mid-life crisis kicking in. Now I need someone half my age to sleep with.
