It occurs to me occasionally to wonder where I'd be and what I'd be earning if I'd stuck with my first job despite hating the politics. Or any job since, in fact, since every job I've given up has been for reasons to do with not agreeing with the direction the company is moving in. Maybe if I'd just swallowed my pride and stuck with the job I'd be pulling down serious G's right now, and living in a house of my own in Cork instead of paying a king's ransom by the month for a house in Dublin, and earning just enough to cover my monthly costs.
