I have no real objection to a "tincture of religion" in public life--I don't really care--but to my way of thinking, either "under God" is literally true, in which case, why bother saying it, or it's not, in which case, there's no point in forcing it on people.
The Pledge wasn't recited in any classes I attended until I was 15 or so, whereupon I took advantage of my Constitutional right, and declined to say it.
I really didn't give a crap about the Pledge; after all, you can't be compelled to say it (you know where i learned this? in a Pat Buchanan column). I think the dude's just another whiny atheist with wadded panties.
Nonetheless, i look forward to "God" being removed from our money in the near future.
