why is it so hard to take a break?

I am currently nosing around holiday websites to try and figure out what I'm going to do with my time off work. Obviously doing nothing is the cheapest, easiest option, but the summer here has been pretty miserable and I'm inclined to catch a bit of sunshine somewhere. I am, however, finding it somewhat difficult, since there does not appear to be a convenient website wherein I can say, "I have two weeks off, starting thus and ending thus, and a nominal budget. What can I do?". I'm reduced to iterating through a list of destinations and heavy use of the "back" button (which doesn't always work, thank you sites with redirects). I may actually have to *gasp* visit a travel agent at this rate.

I know, I know, I find fault with everything. That's my fault. (well, one of 'em.)

go to Kayak.com

Same problem, alas - I know when my time off is, I don't know exactly where I want to go in that time.

well narrow it down....you want sun, so Siberia and Scotland are ruled out. Then look at the time of year, Caribbean is Hurricane Season, so not an option. Then see if there's anyone you would like to visit, in Europe (since you are on the cheapo route) Or how about touring Eastern Europe, or Greece, or Malta etc. Jesus, you Europeans...for the same money we can go from Boston to Cambridge!

And yes, I have long ago invited you here so I am saving this mornings fingertip cells repeating same.

Heh. Actually, I did look. It's a bit pricey, especially since I'm (as usual) leaving it to the last minute. You should at least by happy that I considered the idea.

If I visited, would you promise me that McCain won't be driving the bus in 2008?

The way they vote, or don't vote around here, the only guarantee is that Kucinich won't be there...
