O2 Ireland on the iPhone

I'd say your Apple freaks will be queuing out the door when we launch. (link)
Way to appeal to your customers.

I freaking HATE telephone companies.

And what is with the awful rate plan?

As well as paying out between €399 and €499 for the iPhone itself, depending on the storage capacity, they will also have to sign up to an 18-month contract with o2 costing at least €45 per month.

It means the cheapest iPhone will set you back €1,209 over the next year and a half. (link)
It would probably be worth comparing this with other smartphone purchases, but since I'm not in that market I don't much care to make the effort. I will note that the 16GB version is more than €100 dearer than in the US.

The phone is certainly more expensive, but the rate plans are per-gigabyte. That kind of sucks. You don't want to have to worry about how many bits you have used.

I read some of the comments and even linked to another blog bitchin' about this one. My bet is that the iPhone is not an option in Ireland any more than a Hummer. If you really want to spend all that money, and cocaine is now "boring" then by all means invest in a Fortune 500 company's product and sell you soul for 18 months to O2. After all, do we really need oxygen?

Eh. The cocaine thing was overdone - RTÉ even had to go and defend themselves to the government over it. There's plenty demand here for The Latest Toy, whatever it might be, and a certain amount of the bad press the iPhone is getting is this stupidly pervasive attitude that if you knowingly pay excessively for something, you're being "ripped off". My point was more the attitude of O2 to their customers - referring to your raison d'être as "Apple freaks" is hardly good customer relations.

Oh yeah. There are Hummers here. There's even a stretch Hummer.
