I haven't done any ten-milers, so I can't say how painful that would be, but that's about the pace I would need to do for a marathon to qualify for Boston. And I would love to qualify for Boston.
Hmm, but you've done, like, 9 miles up a mountain and stuff, right?
I am still sore after the 10-miler. Also, I started developing a blister after mile 3, which looked quite... picturesque post-race. My moment of glory, however, was somehow finding the reserves to sprint the last half-mile. Booyah!
I've been very vocal on the subject of marathons: running for up to two hours, which is what I'll be doing next month, doesn't really strike me as something I'd want to do much of. Running for up to four hours is right out, independant of my wishes to be in the US or not.
