well, that was unexpectedly good.

So my target time for the 5 mile race on Saturday was 40 minutes. Imagine my surprise:

Everyone got a RFID tag ("highly technical timing device") which has pickups at the start and finish. So you get the race time, which is the time from when the guy honked the starter's airhorn, and you get your actual time, which is the time from when you crossed the start line.
