well, bugger that.

France 1, Ireland 0. On top of which Niall Quinn loses his license over a drink-driving issue. On the plus side, England 0, Northern Ireland 1; the cheer that greeted this news was one of the biggest of the night.

England V Northern Ireland

Why people from the Republic would cheer the Northern Irish football team against England is strange to say the least. If people think back to the way those bigots treated us in the run up to USA 94 they wouldn't be cheering. Or how they treated Neil Lennon. I could never cheer for a country who's fans are so bigoted that they'd force out one of their own players based on his religion.

For someone commenting from an Irish IP address (if you're someone that knows me, at least leave your name), you're showing an odd lack of understanding about the way Irish soccer fans generally regard games against England, while at the same time exhibiting exactly the sort of long memory that seems to be the basis for much of the political and sectarian issues. A lot has changed since 1994, and using peoples' behaviour then as an excuse to put down the other Irish International soccer team isn't exactly in the spirit of any of the positive developments of the last eleven years.
