Some time ago, bitpuddle asked what the heck was going on in Derry, it being the Marching Season and all that. I responded with a potted history of Northern Ireland, which I'm actually rather happy with. Although I'm sure some people would find it upsetting, what with its heavy reliance on facts. For bonus points it includes a joke.

Is it really called that anywhere? My first semester of college in upstate ny, I was in an american history class, and a bunch of them were really surprised that I learned the same version of it that the 'yankees' did.

But then again, as a friend of mine said the other night: New Orleans isn't in the south, it's the capital of the Northern Caribbean.
