wtf?

Apparently we're, like, totally the best karaoke singers ever. Yeesh. Almost as embarrassing as winning the Eurovision several years in a row.

Irish win a pub culture contest?

I'm not surprised; I'm just surprised that *you're* surprised.

You misunderstand the "popularity" of karaoke here. Or "get that fecker off the stage, some of us are trying to have a quiet drink".

What is it that turns you off the US, anyway? I know the politics here are shite, but that doesn't impact daily life much. What else? The staggering popularity of karaoke?

I know the politics here are shite, but that doesn't impact daily life much.<.blockquote>Do you truly belive this?

Yes, I do. I believe that wealthy and powerful people control political life across the world, as they have done throughout all of history, and that when peons like you and me delude ourselves into believing that we somehow have a stake or a say in this process, the end result is to increase our own unhappiness with no change in the external.

And life here is pretty good, in a lot of very real and tangible ways - especially if you ignore the raucous cries of the news media, the doomsayers, the malcontents, and the cranks.

I have to agree. For all the horror we hear, everyday life is really not affected... so far. I don't think it'll truly get much worse, either... but it's certainly possible. Don't get me wrong, i still think that DC delenda est, but the truth is that this country is so big, it has a lot of momentum. That's why change is so rare and takes time to achieve. There are few truly epochal and crucial events in the last 50 years.

Uh... thanks. Except that you're the malcontent crank doomsayer I was referring to.
