your irregular "waider whines about language" post

How the hell can someone use the phrase "could of" where they mean "could have" and not realise it makes no sense? I mean, what miserable standard of education have you received if you don't spot that? Is it maybe that you think that "could've" is actually written "could of"? (for reference, see "Lithium001" and his great posting sk1llz)

your mistake is the assumption that people think about the language they use.

Well, I guess. Just as well I don't, y'know, get cranky about this stuff, I'd never, to misquote Jim Morrison, wake up in a good mood again.

Bad grammar pisses me off. When I typed for real estate brokers, I'd just fix it, but there's so much crap out there I just want to bang my head against a table.

And I just received an email from my boss with the line "Whose your daddy."

At least that wasn't aimed at me. But really, language is wacky. DH is a spanish teacher, and he's always describing the difference between errors from native English students and native Spanish students. You can spot it a mile away.

My "favourite" illiteracy is the use of "are" instead of "our". I've seen the finance director at work do that in a presentation. He pronouces them like that, too, and probably earns 3-4 times my salary. Git.
