This turned up on Zed's bloggy thing (MemeMachineGo): What the Bubble Got Right. It's an interesting read, but I disagree with one sentence in it: "Good ideas always tend to win eventually." I think that belongs in the same bucket as "there's someone for everyone" and "what goes around comes around" and other such wishful thinking. Bad ideas win on a regular basis, and just because they get trumped fifty years down the line doesn't mean they didn't win. Chances are they got trumped by a worse idea, anyway.

One that recently goaded me to the point of aggressively calm literal-mindedness (I should know better by now) was "Everything happens for a reason".
