I have to work tomorrow, yet the pubs are closed. Are we a religiously controlled country, or are we not?

I don't think you're religiously controlled - if you were, the office would be closed so you could spend the day being penitent in church, no?

But that's exactly my point. The law says I can't go to the pub, but the law has nothing to offer on the issue of working on Good Friday.

The obvious answer is to stop being a geek and open a pub.

Hee. Well, no. There's the small matter of the Intoxicating Liquor Act which basically says you can't sell alcohol on Good Friday or Christmas Day, so us alcoholics have to either stock up the day before or go dry.
