[livejournal.com profile] mopti may correct my spelling and/or explanation: Teachta Dáile, a member of the Irish Parliament (The Dáil).

Oddly, despite the fact that I've never really had any politically-oriented national pride, the anglicisations of TD, Dáil, and Taoiseach feel wrong. Listening to BBC referring to Bertie Ahern as "the Irish Prime Minister" makes me cringe.

But when the BBC /does/ try ...

I did hear them once refer to done-lock-air. I mean, isn't it obvious from the spelling the it is pronounced done-leaoreh
