'former TD': what's TD mean?

mopti may correct my spelling and/or explanation: Teachta Dáile, a member of the Irish Parliament (The Dáil).

Oddly, despite the fact that I've never really had any politically-oriented national pride, the anglicisations of TD, Dáil, and Taoiseach feel wrong. Listening to BBC referring to Bertie Ahern as "the Irish Prime Minister" makes me cringe.

I did hear them once refer to done-lock-air. I mean, isn't it obvious from the spelling the it is pronounced done-leaoreh
