clearing the books

The Hosiery Act of 1845 as well as the Adulteration of Coffee Act of 1718 are among 91 laws set to be expunged from the Statute Book because they are no longer required.

The Government today published the list which also includes the Servants Act of 1715, the Burning of Bricks (Dublin) Act 1770 and the Dangerous Performances Act which was brought in in 1897.

Laws relating to past historical events will also be purged, including the Dublin Reconstruction (Emergency Provisions) Act of 1916.
Really, I think this is just so we don't end up on one of those "In Dublin, it is illegal to wash your animals in the park after midnight" flongmails.

I don't know if I can come back to Dublin knowing the coffee might be adulterated, though. You'd better get onto this.

Hey, if I recall correctly you weren't expecting to find any non-adulterated coffee in the first place... besides, why drink coffee when there's Guinness?

Besides, I bet you've never lived in a place where uncontrolled late-night animal-washing was common. Until you've been bowled over in the dark by a frightened terrier covered in soap bubbles, you've NO IDEA what fear IS.

C'mon, you know me better than that - I'm exactly the sort of guy who'd wash a terrier late at night and then set it loose.

Being bowled over in the dark by a dirty, confident terrier is no joke either, trust me, even in the comfort and privacy of your own home.

I understand some people are into that sort of thing. There are probably websites.

The Coffee

Now that Starbucks have bought Bewleys, I guess the coffee will always be adulterated.

Huh, I missed that - I thought Bewleys was shutting down their coffee shops.
