accidental discovery for the day

The "Menu" key works in Mozilla-on-Linux. I don't think this changes anything about my browsing behaviour, but I certainly wasn't aware of it before.

I don't trust that key. I have pried it off and taped it to my whiteboard.

You'd get on well with kor - every time we give him a keyboard, he pries off the capslock key and sticks it somewhere.

Doesn't work on Firefox-on-NetBSD. Intriguing. What keyboard layout are you using? I've put
Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "Keyboard0"
        Driver "keyboard"
        Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
        Option "XkbLayout" "ie(UnicodeExpert)"
EndSection
in my XF86Config, so altgr+vowel gives the corresponding fada.

Well, since firefox != mozilla I'm not exactly surprised, but hey.

    Identifier "Keyboard0"
    Driver "keyboard"
    Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"
    Option "XkbModel" "armada"
    Option "XkbLayout" "gb"

Aye, looks like that was it. With setxkbmap gb, xev reports a "Menu" keysym, and firefox gives a menu, but setxkbmap 'ie(UnicodeExpert)' and xev says "ISO_Level3_Shift," no menu shown. XFree86(/xorg, if that's your poison) being randomly inconsistent isn't a surprise to anyone, I think.
