another one for the collection

Just watched Pushing Tin. I enjoyed it, although I've seen better John Cusack movies. The thing I like most about John Cusack is that I feel myself realy identifying with his characters. Which is cool, if perhaps misguided.

i'd say that, far from misguided, that this is the essence of the cinema.

Oh, I dunno about that. I find that most movies I see these days are more about people you admire rather than people you identify with. Like the Big Hero of the movie, or whatever. I find John Cusack movies generally to be identifiable-with because the guy looks a bit unlike Mr. $$$ Hollywood Star, has this wonderful mouth-open I'm-not-quite-with-the-plot look, and generally seems to listen to the same music as I do. I'm disregarding the whole "starred in teen films when I was a teenager" because I didn't watch a whole lot of his teen films until years later, and a lot of the stereotypical American teen experience differs significantly from the stereotypical Irish teen experience.

Perhaps the failure to identify with more movie characters is a failure in the movies themselves.
