"If non-combatants surround themselves with thousands of weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition and howitzers and mortars, in a compound known to be used by a terrorist, we are not completely responsible for the consequences," - Unnamed US Spokesman in Afghanistan
Interesting argument, particularly if, say, you consider such things as the phrase "Human Shield" and the fact that the same lack of responsibility appears to apply to a bunch of kids in a field with an as-yet unidentified male adult. All this, note, after ol' Georgie has declared that he'd cleared all them evil folks outta Dodge Afghanistan (Yes, I linked that before, I know).

I particularly like this quote from Bush's speech:

"I came to this office to solve problems and not pass them on to future presidents and future generations[..]"

That isn't how many of us see it, Mr. Bush.

I'm thinking there are several cynical readings possible:
  • He's not planning on there being future presidents
  • He's not passing the existing problems onto the future, he's making entirely new ones
  • He's solved problems in new and interesting ways
