Italy is having a state funeral this morning for the victims of the Nassiriyah bombing. Live coverage of the funeral is being broadcast all over Europe by Euronews and, presumably, others. The Italian government has declared a national day of mourning.

On the other hand, Dubya's administration would prefer the press not to report such things as how many have been killed, or to provide coverage of coffins returning home.

Speaking of the Shrub and GB...

[livejournal.com profile] ogw and [livejournal.com profile] reddragdiva both (http://www.livejournal.com/users/ogw/51992.html) mention (http://www.livejournal.com/users/reddragdiva/100628.html) the absurd requests that Bush made for his visit to the UK.

The requests included things like immunity for secret service agents who might accidentally shoot British citizens they thought to be threats to the president but were in fact just protesting (mmmmmkay) and driving US tanks around London with air support from Apache helicopters as a security measure.

They settled for just closing all of Whitehall off, apparently. (British nobility don't even get this treatment. They just get police outriders closing the next intersection or two ahead of them.)
