Also, you've been spending too much time in the same pub not when you recognise that the ice bucket has changed, but when you can tell the barman what the branding on the old one was.

Lady, when you've been drinking since 7:30 am...

actually, there have been repeated proposals to abolish such quaint notions as "closing time", which meet huge resistance generally revolving around the argument that it'll turn us into a nation of alcoholics.

No, really.

You so almost owe me a keyboard with that. Wow.

(and if you're ever nearby... come hang out in
New Orleans where in the city itself, there is
no official closing time. All drunk cajun wackos?
not quite. Drunk yes. Cajun, irish, italian,
spanish, vietnamese....)

Yeah, I read a bunch of Anne Rice novels while in college and from her various descriptions of past and present New Orleans thought it'd be a cool place to visit. However, my stock reply to "when will you be in the US again?" (I've got friends and relations in your little nation) is "Not as long as Dubya's in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue".

And, of course, should you find yourself in Dublin I can show you the pub in which the aforementioned drinking took place.
