naming bands

Legend, and one of the original band members, has it that the name Horslips came from an evening in the local chipper discussing band names; one member suggested The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, whereupon one of his comrades snorted derisively and said, "The Four Poxmen of the Horslips".

And lo, &c.

Dearg Doom is the only track I can claim any familiarity with, and it was my reason for one of my last CD purchases, a compilation called Electric Reels. It was a second-hand copy, and as luck with have it, the scratch that rendered it cheap goes right through the tail-end of Dearg Doom.

ARSE.

Ireland only experiment with glam rock

Horslips had generated lots of good stories. They did a kind of wierd glam rock/ceildh fusion. One reviewer that went to a concert complained that although the music was good, it was offputting to see Eamonn Carrs armpit hair.
