I'm not really sure how to comment on this: "The United States has assured foreign companies that they will be allowed to bid for contracts for the reconstruction of Iraq after the war is over.". There's something intangibly wrong with it that I don't quite know how to put into words.

I wouldn't bet on it; he's pressing for UN involvement in the post-war administration, which I don't think is a popular view in Washington.
