all your beer are belong to us. er, Belgium.

There's something distinctly dissonant about InBev buying Anheuser Busch. Possibly the notion that InBev's flagship, Stella Artois, is marketed as "reassuringly expensive" while Bud is generally (in these parts, at least) considered absolute swill. Then again, Stella is also fairly commonly known (again, in these parts) as "Wife Beater"[1], so YMMV.

[1] despite this being a quote from the Daily Mail, it is factually accurate, and the nickname extends outside the UK to this particular island.

I have to confess that i wondered whether Bud would finally taste of something, or it would mean "Stella Tortoise" becoming even more bland (or worse, Leffe being toned down in an attempt to boost sales).

Of course, these days brewing companies seem to have learned the perils of changing recipes after a takeover, so it was just idle, but mildly entertaining speculation.

Well the taste of Bud in the US and Bud in Ireland is totally different. Take that along with the tastes of Heineken and Amstel outside the Netherlands or good old Guinness in it's several different flavors. I remember in college we had a Guinness scale, Mothers Milk or Cream, Hotel Guinness, Nightclub Guinness and the Ultimate....Racecourse Guinness. That was a very good scale when I came to the US as we compared the "Oirish" bars for their idea of a pint.

As to wife beater, you can rest assure yourselves that we are doing our best to propagate that name around the hinterland.

You know, when you want to drink something ice cold on a hot day that tastes refreshingly of beechwood chips, a Bud is not bad. I had not known that it was formulated differently in Ireland, but it doesn't surprise me.

Bud is a quintessentially American thing. It is indeed odd to contemplate it being owned by Belgians.
