Hmmm ... I didn't believe it when one of the headlines said the TD was "ashamed" -- just wasn't able to pull the right strings with the Gardaí more like, and had better grovel if he doesn't want his ass kicked as well.

Mind you, I do think he should get pretty much the same as anybody else if he has commmitted an offence. I don't think drink-driving is one of those things that deserve extra special punishment for law makers. (Unlike, say, misleading tribunals set up the Oireachtas.)
