colloquial names for roads

Apparently the multi-million-euro motorway that almost encircles Dublin is the "Around The Wicklow Mountains" road...

Ha. I'd seen that recently, because I was looking at the map while sorting my Ireland photos for flickr. It seemed a bit odd, but they get some curious things wrong where I live as well.

I'm disappointed. I would expect something both smutty and rhyming from Dubliners!

We could start it here, register a domain name we all think is the best and take it from there. A subtle email link to the right people and ta-da we can say it was Waider journal that caused the Stepaside bypass to be created?

I think the combination of the cost, the time it took to open it, the 100kph speed limit over a significant portion of it, the tailbacks, and the fact that they're already proposing to further disrupt traffic to add an extra lane has left most Dubliners speechless.

About 5 years ago when I was out there doing all those surveys, we did the south for the extension but we also surveyed the north, and did prediction models for the extra lane.

I like the idea, but that's still not a smutty enough name :P

I love it, a fucking bypass with a 62 mph speed limit....isn't that the typical speed the regular road was travelled at?
