networking, ish

After a little too much tooling about, I have some semblance of a LAN running again. I will note, in passing, that various things handle the lack of a proxy really badly. Mozilla configured to fall back to direct access if it can't find a proxy seems to attempt to relocate the proxy each time; logjam (a livejournal client) disregards its proxy setting if you've set the http_proxy variables, which is really irritating. I can't really run a proxy at the moment because the box-in-the-middle has a mere 32MB and is already struggling.

Oh, and hand-configuring redhat's dialup stuff circa redhat-6.2 without linuxconf is NOT pleasant.
