gah
I help out on #samba occasionally, since I've done a little digging in the internals of samba and thus feel somewhat qualified to bail people out. Of course, there are people who take advantage of this, as there always is with any given free service. And sometimes I get pissed off:
<DracoDanMP> hmmmm, i think ive got a windows related problem, there wouldnt be anyone here willing to try helping me would there?
<DracoDanMP> anyone? it would be greatly, greatly appreciated
<DracoDanMP> nobody can help?
<waider> DracoDanMP: (a) this is a samba help channel. (b) you haven't given any information about your problem. (c) the only samba-related question you've asked so far was a FAQ, which suggests you've not tried reading any documentation before seeking help here.
<DracoDanMP> =(
<waider> people give help here on a voluntary basis. by not reading docs and asking non-samba questions you're taking advantage of their goodwill, which makes them far less likely to help you.
<DracoDanMP> ok, got a link to the faq?
<waider> have you tried the samba site?
<waider> have you tried google?
<DracoDanMP> there now
<waider> people are not going to spoonfeed you basic information. you are expected to at least TRY and help yourself.
At this point, I just left him before I got an urge to break something.
